Total ASX Short Value
How much of the ASX's value is sold short: short positions × share price, against the market value of the same companies.
Share of ASX market value sold short
Value-weighted short interest: rises only when short positions grow faster than share prices
Each day, every stock's reported short position is valued at its closing price and added up, then divided by the market value of the same companies (shares on issue × closing price), which covers about the whole ASX. Because prices appear on both sides, a market rally doesn't move the percentage; it rises only when short sellers hold a bigger slice of the market.
The dollar total is shown for reference but moves with share prices and with how many stocks have price data that day. ASIC publishes short positions four business days after trading.
